The Fades Preview

BBC3 has brought us two great cult Sci-Fi shows, Torchwood and Being Human but could The Fades be the channels next big hit?

The supernatural drama will begin airing a six part series later this month and it focuses on 17-year-old Paul (Iain De Caestecker) who becomes embroiled in a battle between the living and the dead. Creator Jack Thorne explains "The Fades are dead people, spirits that are trapped here in our world. There is no reason why fades are chosen. Death is random and the Fades are those that are left behind. They are angry, truly angry about the randomness and the pain and suffering. They are rotting, they can’t be touched, they’re prisoners on Earth and the series is about the Fades trying to break through back into the world of the living."

In the first episode a embittered and vengeful Fade has found a way to break the barrier between the dead and the living with Paul and his best mate Mac's (Daniel Kaluuya) friends and family all right in the eye of the storm. But the most terrifying twist is yet to come – the fate of humanity rests in the hands of the two friends who already have enough trouble getting through a day in one piece, let alone saving the world.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2

 Okay so I'm possibly the only person in the world who had'nt seen it yet and by the completely empty cinema screening except for me and my friend that seems to be true. I finnally got around to watching it, in 2D of course (I dont do 3D) and was gripped from start to finnish. The story follows on from Part 1 as you would expect with Harry, Hermione and Ron tracking down the last few Horcruxes they need to defeat Voldy. A thrilling sequence in Gringots bank kicks off the film nicely with with the CGI done brilliantly for the dragon that protects the vaults. The three wizards are then brought back to Hogwarts so that they can find another Horcrux, Roweena Ravenclaws diadum but you'll have to ask Luna Lovegood what a diadum is. Then comes the battle that we all came to see. The students and teachers of Hogwarts veruses Voldemorts army of ogres, death eaters and werewolves. The battle contains a superb bridge sequence with Neville Longbottom becoming the action hero. My favourite part of the film has to be when we see that Severus Snape the one we were lead to belive was a villain was a hero all along and it's made all the more heartbreaking by his vicious death at the fangs of Voldemorts snake. As someone who hasnt read the books (chill I'm starting the Philosophers Stone now!) this was all a suprise. Harry must confront Voldemort in the forbidden forest always the setting for the most creepy scenes. Harry is thought to have been killed by Voldemort but Mrs Malfoy's false diagnosis provides Harry with the opportunity to strike. Before that though we have the most awkward and uncomfortable hug between Draco Malfoy and Voldemort, made me laugh. It's the final showdown and it's Harry vs Voldemort, Mrs Weasley vs Bellatrix Lestrange and Neville vs the Snake. Good triumphs over evil of course and we get a glimpse 19  years into the future with Harry and Ginny and Ron and Hermione's kids off for their first year at Hogwarts. It's a fitting end to a brilliant set of films made great by the fab cast and crew. I dont think there will be anything quite this big in cinema for a very long time. 4 1/2 stars.

We could be heroes

2011 has been the year of the Superhero films, some good (Captain America) and some bad (Green Lantern). The future seems to be full of with costumed heroes with The Dark Knight Rises, The Avengers, The Amazing Spider Man all due out next year and the new Superman movie Man of Steel out in 2013. Here's what we know about them so far:

 The Dark Knight Rises- July 2012

The filming pictures have been plastered all of the net some of them fight scenes between Batman played by Christian Bale and Bane played by Tom Hardy and others of the Batwing. We've also had a official picture of Catwoman played by Anne Hathaway on her bike with some liking the look and others wanting the outfit to be more similar to Michelle Pfeiffer's in Batman Returns. Filming has taken place in India, England, Wales, Scotland and Los Angeles so  it looks as though the film will take us all across the globe. The Dark Knight will be hard to top after Heath Ledgers brilliant performance as The Joker. In Nolan we trust...

The Avengers- May 2012

Iron Man (Robert Downey Jnr) , Captain America (Chris Evans), The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Thor (Chris Hemsworth) Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) form The Avengers bringing together my favourite superheroes in one film directed by Buffy's Joss Whedon. The last couple of Marvel movies have been setting up the story nicely and finally our heroes will be brought together in one action packed movie. Tom Hiddleston will reprise his role as supervillain Loki  from Thor so that's one baddie sorted. Who else will take on The Avengers?

The Amazing Spider Man- July 2012

It's out with the old (Sam Raimi  and Tobey Maguire) and in with new (Marc Webb and Andrew Garfield). It's reboot time for Spider Man and we go back to the origin story with student Peter Parker being bitten by a radioactive spider giving him super powers. The main antagonist of the film will be Dr Curt Connors/The Lizard played by Rhys Ifans. Stan Lee will have a cameo as usual playing a librarian listening to music on his headphones while stamping books and dancing at the same time, despite the on-going fight between Spider-Man and The Lizard. I wonder if Stan just turns up on set randomly expecting to be in the film. You can hardly say no to him!

Superman: Man of Steel- 2013

"He is not wearing the red pants therefore I'm not watching this film!" That is the slightly exaggerated attitude of some fans to the radical decision to ditch the iconic undies for the big screen debut of Henry Cavill's Superman. I don't care to honest  with or without the undercrackers he looks good to me! Amy Adams will play love interest Lois Lane and Michael Shannon will play villain General Zod. Hopefully director Zack Snyder can be the one to bring Superman back to the big screen with a bang after the failure of Superman Returns in 2006 to re-launch the series.  

A Little Intro

Welcome to Stuff What I Watch (the apalling grammar is intentional!) the place for reviews and news on TV and Movies. To give you a idea of what sort of stuff I'll be posting about my favourite TV shows are Being Human, Doctor Who, Shooting Stars, Torchwood, Misfits, Family Guy, Primeval, The Apprentice, Futurama, An Idiot Abroad, Hustle and lots of comedy shows. Movies that I like are superhero films, thrillers, comedies, sci-fi and my all time favourite film is a Oscar winning arthouse film by the name of Johnny English. Expect a film review shortly (going to the cinema not sure what I'm going to see yet) and a Doctor Who: Night Terrors review too.
